ANOTHER ‘LIVING FOSSIL’
“A study of an Early Miocene fossil from southern Siberia performed by an international team of researchers, from the National Museum in Prague, Voronezh State University and the Museum of Natural History in London, led to the surprising find that the fossil belongs to a species of aquatic beetles which is still alive today and widely distributed in Eurasia,” reported Science Daily (6th October 2011) . The fossil was found in sediments claimed to be “16-23 million years old.” Prior to this find, scientists did not believe that an insect species could remain unchanged for such a long period.“ They are puzzled as to how these insects survived the “massive changes of the Earth's climate during the last millions of years.” COMMENT: The evolution theory is supposed to mean change over time. This is the latest of numerous examples of non-evolution. However, we doubt that these researchers will question their sacred millions-of-years timescale.

THE EYES HAVE IT
According to ScienceNOW (7th October 2011), scientists are discovering how human and animal eyes deal with blur and estimate distance. “It's something we all take for granted: our ability to look at an object, near or far, and bring it instantly into focus. The eyes of humans and many animals do this almost instantaneously and with stunning accuracy…In order to see an object clearly, an accurate estimate of blur is important. Humans and animals instinctively extract key features from a blurry image, use that information to determine their distance from an object, then instantly focus the eye to the precise desired focal length.” Researchers say they are now nearer to understanding how the brain accomplishes this feat. “Previously many had thought that the brain used a system of guessing and checking to get to the answer, much like the way a camera's auto-focus system works.” COMMENT: Evolutionists tells us that eyes were created by “blind chance “ through gradual evolutionary steps. Yet they are better than cameras that took human expertise to design.

‘DINOSAUR FEATHERS’ CLAIM
Science Daily (15th September 2011) reported that the “evolution of feathers on dinosaurs and birds” had been “captured” in amber found near Grassy Lake, Alberta, Canada. The amber contained “proto-feathers”, as well as feathers “similar to those of modern birds like the Grebe (right).”The report stated that “No dinosaur or avian fossils were found in direct association with the amber feather specimens, but …. comparison between the amber and fossilized feathers found in rock strongly suggest that some of the Grassy Lake specimens are from dinosaurs." COMMENT: This is not evidence for feathered dinosaurs! Since “no dinosaur or avian fossils were found in direct association” with this find, and some of the feathers resembled those of modern grebes, this is just wishful thinking by scientists who already believe that dinosaurs evolved into birds. The most logical explanation is that the amber contained down and feathers from birds and nothing more.

ANIMALS’ BIOSONAR BEATS US
Science Daily (14th November 2011) reported that bats, dolphins, and mole rats are inspiring advances in ultrasound technology. “Sonar and ultrasound, which use sound as a navigational device and to paint accurate pictures of an environment, are the basis of countless technologies, including medical ultrasound machines and submarine navigation systems. But when it comes to more accurate sonar and ultrasound, animals' ‘biosonar’ capabilities still have the human race beat.” Scientists believe that by studying the way these animals use ultrasound, “they will be able to mimic this technology” to build “a new generation of ultrasound machines… This could provide a variety of benefits to the medical field, such as earlier detection of defects in embryos or non-invasive detection of cancer tumours.” COMMENT: Further evidence that God’s designs are always better and more efficient, though we doubt that these researchers will give God credit for what they hope to mimic, and use for human benefit.

LIFE FROM MUD?
Scientists are now claiming that life began in mud volcanoes in southwest Greenland, reported the Daily Mail (28th October 2011). “They believe they erupted 3.8 billion years ago, forcing certain elements up to the surface which were crucial in the formation of biomolecules — the building blocks of life. It was previously thought that the first living things evolved in geysers — underwater volcanoes which spewed out hydrogen, methane and other gases which produced an environment favourable to life.” The researchers believe that these mud volcanoes “produced the ideal conditions for protein molecules to evolve into single-cell organisms… These are the simplest forms of life which would, over millions of years, evolve into multi-cell organisms, and eventually into birds, mammals and humans.” COMMENT: Biomolecules are formed by living organisms, so how could those (non-living) “certain elements” which were supposedly “forced up the the surface” become living cells? This vital step in the origin of life is, as usual, neatly side-stepped, and hey presto! — we have living organisms which are then said to have evolved into more complex forms, including ourselves. The truth is, secular scientists are no nearer to explaining the origin of life than they ever were.

NEW LIGHT ON ALIENS?
Scientists searching for aliens in outer space have come up with a new idea — look for their city lights! Space.com (4th November 2011) reported: “Assuming that aliens need light to see at night much as we do, theoretical astrophysicist Abraham Loeb at Harvard University and astronomer Edwin Turner at Princeton University reasoned that extraterrestrial civilizations would switch on city lights during the hours of darkness on their world.” However, the researchers admit that it would be impossible with our present telescopes to spot cities beyond our solar system. "The closest star is 100 times farther than that," Dr Loeb said. “You would need a telescope with optics at least 100 times wider in diameter than the Hubble Space Telescope's.” The report admits that “A key assumption is that aliens need to rely on light at night just as we do, as opposed to being comfortable in darkness like many nocturnal animals on Earth.” COMMENT: Another “key assumption” these ET researchers are making is that life can arise from non-living matter if conditions are right, when in fact there is no evidence whatsoever that this has ever happened, or could happen. We predict that they will never detect the lights of alien cities, because there are no aliens!
